About The Silk
Artist
Well thank you for being
interested!
This is me, Gill Kitchen. I hail from Altrincham, a Cheshire town south of Manchester in the
north west of England and now I live in Tramore in Co. Waterford, a small seaside resort in the
south east of Ireland with my family.
Tramore is lovely with a beautiful coastline and rolling hills.
I spent a reckless youth travelling the world (well not the whole of it
obviously) and lived in Australia and Holland before settling here to live a responsible and
productive life.
Anyway, I love silk painting and apart from my fabulous kids it is my passion. I have
been silk painting for over 20 years and have been selling my work through shops and
private commissions.
I specialise in the French Serti silk painting
technique which is the main technique used with silk painting patterns.
It has become obvious to me that there are very few patterns easily available for silk painters to use.
Silk painting books are great for teaching the basics and for offering some projects to try but
actual tracing patterns are elusive.
For this reason I developed this website. Patterns are easy to use and there is reassurance in
knowing from the start what your finished picture will be rather than blindly brushing paint on
to a panel of silk and hoping for the best.
I have also designed a range of nail wraps using some of my
silk designs and you can view the range here.
So I really hope you enjoy this site and if you have any comments, questions or suggestions (lets
keep it friendly eh!) I would really love to hear from you. I may even put some of your more
flattering remarks on this site if you are very very lucky.
